Sony has announced Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, starring Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt, for Blu-Ray in July.
Earlier this year Salmon Fishing in the Yemen managed to scrape up a decent amount of money at the box office and while doing so it gathered more than one positive review. It’s been receiving praise for the performances by Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt and up until this point I’ve honestly never had any interest in the film.
I do plan on checking out when it hits Blu-Ray this summer though, I’m always in the mood for a romantic comedy/drama that doesn’t completely insult my intelligence while taking my money.
Our very own Kristal Cooper had this to say about the film in her review:
As agreeable as Salmon Fishing in the Yemen very definitely is, the film ultimately represents a missed opportunity. The slow-burning, sweetly chaste romance, and sparkling dialogue is a reminder of the bygone golden era of big screen romantic comedy but the film’s numerous (and often extraneous) side stories invoke the very modern movie problem of trying to please every possible demographic. As it stands, the best elements of the film become mired in the unwelcome narrative muck, branding Salmon Fishing in the Yemen the one that got away.
The Blu-Ray/UltraViolet combo pack will be presented in 1080p with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track and it will come with three behind-the-scenes featurettes.
Look for Salmon Fishing in the Yemen on shelves on July 17th, 2012.
