Universal Studios has announced the highly-anticipated Blu-Ray release of Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List for March. The film stars Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Kingsley.
One of Steven Spielberg’s most important films is hands down Schindler’s List. The film is one of the most powerful pieces of dramatic filmmaking to cover the horrible events of the Holocaust that I’ve ever seen. It’s an eye-opening film that shows just how horrible people can be and more importantly how life-changing they can be.
The film’s Blu-Ray release has been one of the most asked for titles since the birth of the format. Actually, pretty much all of Spielberg’s library has been begged for in some manner, but Schindler’s List just might have been the most sought after. I’m surprised that it’s taken this long to come to the high definition format, but I suppose Universal was waiting for the 20th anniversary, so that they could properly market the film and make sure they had enough time to get everything in order for the release.
Universal has put in a lot of effort to get this one to Blu-Ray, working from the original 35mm negative to ensure us the best-looking video transfer as well as a top-notch lossless audio track.
The film will be coming to Blu-Ray in the form of a Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack, with both iTunes and UltraViolet copies. Although the full list of special features hasn’t been announced, we can confirm the following bonus content:
- Voices from the List: Documentary featuring a number of moving testimonies and heartbreaking stories from men and women who survived the Holocaust thanks to Oskar Schindler.
- USC Shoah Foundation Story with Steven Spielberg: The director shows how filming Schindler’s List inspired him to establish the USC Shoah Foundation.
Schindler’s List will be available for purchase on March 5th, 2013.
