Vixen: The Movie Blu-Ray Cover Art And Release Date Revealed

Each year, Warner Home Video puts out three major DC animated films – in 2017’s case, Justice League Dark, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract and Batman and Harley Quinn – but sometimes we get a few unexpected treats in between. One such example comes in the surprise announcement of Vixen: The Movie.

For those unfamiliar, Vixen was an animated web series on the CW Seed streaming service that chronicled the adventures of the superheroine of the same name. But what made this especially appealing was that it took place within the confines of the Arrowverse, thus Mari McCabe was voiced by Megalyn Echikunwoke, the very same actress who played her in live action on Arrow.

Being someone who doesn’t always have the time to catch up on web series, I’d been waiting for it to be included as bonus content on a Blu-ray release of, say, Arrow or The Flash. But, thankfully, WB did us one better by opting to cut all episodes from seasons 1 and 2 together as one fluid movie. Not only that, but there’s said to be “15 minutes of all-new, never-before-seen content,” so we’ll have to see what that entails. It wasn’t really specified if that pertains to the film’s running time or if they’re speaking of bonus features.

On that note, the following extras are set to be included on both Blu-ray and DVD releases:

  • Vixen: Spirit Animal featurette
  • Bruce Timm’s Top Picks:
    • Episode from Justice League Unlimited, “Hunter’s Moon”
    • Episode from Justice League Unlimited, “Grudge Match”

As stated earlier, this flick is, in fact, in continuity with other Arrowverse shows, so you can look forward to seeing the following actors lend their pipes to animated versions of themselves: Stephen Amell (Green Arrow), Grant Gustin (The Flash), Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak), Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon), Katie Cassidy (Black Canary), Victor Garber (Martin Stein) & Franz Drahmeh (Jax) collectively as Firestorm and Brandon Routh (The Atom). Pretty cool, eh?

Vixen: The Movie is set to arrive via Digital HD on May 8 before making its way to Blu-ray and DVD on May 23.
