Warner Bros. has finally announced the long-awaited Blu-Ray release of Cloud Atlas for May. The film was directed by The Wachowskis and Tom Tywker and stars an impressive ensemble cast that includes Tom Hanks, Hugo Weaving, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess and many more.
Cloud Atlas is one of the most important films of this decade. There, I’ve said it and it can’t be undone! I absolutely love the film and cannot wait to revisit it again and again on Blu-Ray. What The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer have done is created a multi-storied, multi-layered film about literally everything. Birth, death, love, past, present, future — it goes on and on. I’ve gone on long-winded rants about how important the film is for far too long and now I simply cannot form words to describe it.
For some odd reason WB has been bouncing back and forth with releasing the film on home video, mainly due to it not even coming out until February overseas, but also due to it doing horrible business stateside back in October and the lack of Oscar nominations for the awards show, which takes place this Sunday.
How Cloud Atlas was overlooked is beyond me and it’ll forever remain one of the most over-looked films of 2012. I’m glad that there’s a collective group of people that have also expressed their love of the film, because I absolutely hate it when something this remarkable and amazing comes out and goes unnoticed by most.
Our very own Jonathan Lack is a big supporter of the film too. Here’s what he had to say about it in his review:
Cloud Atlas is a staggering masterpiece, a positively inspired piece of filmmaking that blows the lid off cinematic convention and uses unparalleled artistry to tell a story that encompasses the whole of human experience. It is not just the most ambitious and revolutionary film of 2012, but one of the most unique and powerful cinematic milestones of the modern era.
