Hilaria Baldwin, wife of Alec Baldwin, has often been teased, if not downright questioned, about her claims of being from Spain. Now, Amy Schumer decided to slam the “sociopath” yoga instructor, figuratively at least, over those claims.
In her new Netflix special, Emergency Contact, Schumer doesn’t hold back her observations about Hilaria Baldwin and, to some degree, is saying what many people are thinking.
“Hilaria from España,” Schumer says during her comedy special, “is Hillary from Boston.”
For years, Hialria Baldwin’s personal bio listed on her agency’s website claimed she was born in Mallorca, Spain. This is false. Even her husband, Alec, once appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman and said that his wife is from Spain, making one wonder if she lied to her husband or if he’s in on the act.
Schumer says that Hilaria is, “in no way Spanish. Her parents are not from Spain, no one in her life is from Spain.”
In 2020, videos surfaced online of her not speaking with a Spanish accent, a surprise at the time since she always seemed to speak with one. The numerous video clips, as explained by Inside Edition, ultimately led to many people pointing out that she was born and raised in Massachusetts, and even former schoolmates chimed in.
In some videos, she has an accent, and in others, she has no accent whatsoever. She was thus, understandably, accused of cultural appropriation. Multiple Spanish magazines would even list her as Latina and praise her as one.
Then there was an infamous video of her on the Today show forgetting the word “cucumber.” She pointed to it and asked, “How do you say in English?”
The backlash prompted HiIaria to post a long rant on Instagram where she came clean and admitted that she was indeed born in Boston, but explained that her family background is Spanish, though this is also disputed.
“Yes. I am a white girl. I am a white girl,” she said. ”Culturally, I grew up with two cultures, so it’s really as simple as that.”
She then seems to blame those “two cultures” for the reason why she bounces back and forth between having an accent and having no accent. It also came out that her name is actually Hillary and not Hilaria. She claims that she simply uses the name Hilaria when she’s in Spain, though that doesn’t explain why she has been using the name for years in America.
Schumer points out that in order to continue the apparent charade, Hillary not only uses the name Hilaria, but she and her husband also named their kids Spanish names.
Schumer doesn’t stop at the heritage controversy. She refers to Hilaria — or Hillary — as a “sociopath,” and notes the recent tragedy on the set of Rust involving Alec Baldwin. She states, “This woman, since she met her husband, has straight-up pretended she is from Spain and her husband shot someone,” she then adds, “My point is that neither of them give a fu**.”
Amy Schumer’s comedy rant special is now streaming on Netflix, but you can’t use your cousin’s password anymore.
