This might sound surprising, but not everyone was on board with the idea of Ryan Gosling being Greta Gerwig’s Ken in the director’s much-anticipated Barbie movie. But, as the promotions for the film start building up steam, even his haters are reconsidering their position.
Gosling stepped out in a proper Barbie getup at CinemaCon on Tuesday, wearing a bright pink bomber jacket, and a white tee with “From Director Greta Gerwig” written on it in big, chunky Barbie letters, all topped off with tasteful blonde highlights and an enviable spray tan. The look was so on point that his residue doubters seem to be prepared to fully jump on the Gosling Ken bandwagon en route to Barbie’s July premiere.
Just in case Gosling’s killer fashion wasn’t enough to get you on board, wait until you hear just how deeply he knows his character. The Drive actor, too, doubted his “Ken-energy,” he confessed at CinemaCon, until his on-screen Barbie Margot Robbie and Gerwig “conjured this out of me.” “Ken has no sense of humor. He’s utterly, deadly serious,” he said of a character based on a children’s doll who wears rainbow-colored neon outfits, and jorts. He just gets it.
Barbie is easily one of the most anticipated movies of the year. After the trailer and the character posters completely took over the internet, those attending CinemaCon in Las Vegas got to take a peek at some of the film’s scenes, including a sacred Barbie with flat feet instead of perfectly and naturally arched ones.
Barbie is bringing fun back to theaters July 21, 2023.
