The Black Mirror season 6 trailer dropped today and it’s all anyone is talking about. Sporting an all-star cast and trippy visuals, all backed by the menacing song “I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire” – the series is clearly setting up for yet another incredible entry.
Fans took to Twitter to laude the short peek, but there was one clear MVP for the day. Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul stole the show, with fans collectively fanning the flames of their hearts for his inevitably amazing performance.
The joy was palpable.
Arron Paul won’t be the only familiar face. Black Mirror creator Charlie Booker has some big plans to put his star-studded cast — a cast Booker describes as, “so talented they frankly have no right to exist.” — to the test.
Joining Paul on the set is a slew of award-winning actors. Annie Murphy (Schitts Creek), Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone), Himesh Patel (Don’t Look Up), John Hannah (The Mummy), Josh Hartnet (The Virgin Suicides), Kate Mara (The Martian), Michael Cera (Arrested Development), Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) Salma Hayek Pinault (Frida), Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2), and Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2) are all lending their talent to the immense project, which is set to break out of the mold it’s fit so far.
Booker told Netflix’s News Site that,
“I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people (and myself) or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself. So partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect.”
Fans are certainly here for the chaos.
Booker expanded on his new ideas, “Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is. The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through – but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before.”
Considering how off-the-wall some of the Black Mirror entries have been to date, we can’t wait to see how Booker intends to flip the series on its head.
The latest season will be dropping in June.
