Boba Fett was rumored to appear in season three of The Mandalorian, but sadly that didn’t come to pass. Many wondered if the character was supposed to reappear in the series, considering that parts of The Mandalorian‘s story made their way to The Book of Boba Fett. Star Wars actor, Temuera Morrison has revealed that he was supposed to be in the show but didn’t receive a call from Disney or LucasFilm.
During his Q&A panel at SUPANOVA Comic Con & Gaming convention in Melbourne, Australia, Morrison was asked if he was supposed to have a cameo appearance in The Mandalorian season three. The actor gave an entertaining response on stage and claimed that he was supposed to be in it, but his phone never rang:
“I was supposed to be in The Mandalorian season 3 but nobody rang me. I was waiting for the phone call in New Zealand, waiting and wanting to give up.”
While Morrison didn’t reveal if he was hinted at or discussed a possible cameo appearance in The Mandalorian‘s third season, he jokingly commented on how Din Djarin took over his show, expressing a similar sentiment fans had when they blamed The Book of Boba Fett for seasons 3’s mediocre reception.
“Well that Mando guy stole a few chapters of my book. It was painful watching him turn up with some black new lethal sword. And the way he turned up in my Book of Boba, he just destroyed everybody. I’m sure this guy is… ah… ruining my show. But I couldn’t say anything. I’m not the writer, so I have to bear it I guess”
As for a possible return in future Star Wars installments, Morrison claimed that changes are happening around Disney. And while he didn’t confirm nor deny that he was going to be recast, he did say that the company is going to be making a few “cutbacks.” So there is now uncertainty if Boba Fett will ever return. Perhaps that’s why he ended up playing a minor role as a Clone Trooper during season 3’s run.
“I think there is a few changes going on. We also come under the big umbrella known as “Disney” now too. So it’s one of the last few conversations we had in L.A . The conversation started like, “Oh look we’re having a few changes. We’re having a few cutbacks.” And when you hear that at the other end of the line, it’s no good trying to negotiate any more money that’s for sure. So we’ll see what happens.”
At the moment, there hasn’t been any news to determine whether Morrison will return in a second season of The Book of Boba Fett, have a cameo appearance in Ahsoka or perhaps even play other notable Clone Troopers like Captain Rex. But based on the response that Morrison gave during the event, the chances are looking slim.
