When it comes to the Super Bowl, looking out of place is no easy task; in fact, it’s borderline impressive, considering you’re bound to share the screen with a commercial slate famous for its outlandishness.
So it was all the more surprising when Elon Musk, the human embodiment of some of the worst aspects of the American zeitgeist (a collective subconscious that is perhaps most succinctly captured during the runtime of the Super Bowl) managed to stick out like a sore thumb when one of the cameras caught a glimpse of him.
We may not have gotten the Secret Invasion trailer as soon as we’d hoped, but seeing Musk, an alleged human, trying to blend in amongst the rest of our species is probably the next closest thing to seeing what the Skrulls will get up to in Marvel’s upcoming limited series.
But it wasn’t the elusive (take that as you will) Musk that made Twitter wince; indeed, seeing one of the world’s most consequentially influential tech CEOs sitting next to one Rupert Murdoch, the chairman of Fox News, is about as unenviable as it sounds.
It certainly doesn’t bode well for Musk’s anti-elitist image, which, of course, should never have boded at all considering that he, himself, is an elite.
And you can always count on Musk’s attempts at fashion statements to go down as fashion sentence fragments.
Flirting with dogecoin and heinous propaganda notwithstanding, this Super Bowl has been one for the books (or data banks, in Musk’s case), if for no other reason than news on Rhianna’s next venture into motherhood, which broke the internet just minutes ago.
