Although she isn’t featured in the new Little Mermaid movie (see: Halle Bailey), there’s no denying that our Catwoman is enough of a star in her own right. In recent years, Halle Berry‘s career has slowed down somewhat, but as she embraces the ripe age of 56, it’s understandable that she isn’t as consistently active as she used to be. Gone are the days of Storm and Catwoman, she’s happy to settle for the odd science fiction epic instead. That isn’t to say that some of Berry’s old characters make an appearance sometimes, such as when she’s defending their friendship.
Berry last graced our screens in 2022’s Moonfall, which also stars Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Michael Peña, and Charlie Plummer. Fun fact: Moonfall was shot in Montreal on a $138–$146 million budget, making it one of the most expensive independently produced films ever made. All things considered, it was a box-office flop, but not through any fault of Berry’s, nor her co-stars. In fact, critics can’t really figure out what they thought of it.
But none of Berry’s roles could be as popular as X-Men’s Storm — not even Catwoman. In 2000, Berry debuted as Storm, a mutant born with the ability to change the weather at will. She became involved in what is arguably some of the best X-Men movies: X-Men, X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. She hasn’t portrayed Storm since 2014, and Marvel seeks to recast the role for an upcoming X-Men title.
But Berry isn’t a one-trick pony. When she isn’t kicking butt as Storm, she’s making waves in Black Hollywood with Natalie Desselle in the female buddy comedy B.A.P.S. — Black American Princesses. She portrays Nisi, a waitress who becomes entangled in a scheme to impersonate the granddaughter of a wealthy homeowner, but soon finds herself growing attached to the older man.
Although we wouldn’t consider Storm and Nisi to be BFFs, Berry is making an argument to support their friendship. One Twitter user suggested that Storm and Nisi would “hate each other,” but Berry felt differently. “I think they’d be girls,” she responded.
And the sad fact is that we’ll never know for sure if Storm and Nisi would get along, but who knows these characters better than Berry? We’ll have to take her word for it.
