Thor: Love and Thunder might be a Marvel mega-hit raking in a total of $760 million at the box office but it is definitely not the most respected MCU entry thanks to the lousy storylines and silly humor which, according to many critics contributed to the film’s bad reputation.
It’s not only the audience and critics but the movie’s very protagonist and MCU superstar, Chris Hemsworth who is of the same opinion. Earlier, in an interview with GQ, the 39-year-old actor called Love and Thunder “too silly.” Speaking further on the movie, he explained,
“I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly. It’s always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective…I love the process, it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond.”
In his latest remarks about the film to Yahoo Entertainment, Hemsworth stretched his view on the film a little further, emphasizing that what worked for him in making the movie a success is the comedy and the fun.
And the lesson he gathered from the experience was to take it easy and focus on what worked in the film rather than what didn’t. In the case of Love and Thunder, it is the fun and laughter element that earned it the criticism in the first place. His exact words on this subject were,
“I still love the film. You have to critique and look at what worked in case you do it again on a different film. The lesson I took was have fun with the comedy and so on, but what’s the emotional drive and component here? Is this something relatable? Then you can add on all the jokes and the fantastical special effects and the elements. But if there’s not a strong enough throughline, sometimes you’re just having too much fun.”
Sadly, not everything’s fun in the life of the Thor star whose new action-thriller, Extraction 2 will be released on June 16. He was diagnosed with the APOE4 gene while filming his Disney television series, Limitless – which means that he is prone to contract Alzheimer’s in the future.
Responding to the situation, Hemsworth talked to Entertainment Tonight in the past about his intentions of taking a break from his schedule. All said and done, one thing’s for sure, his name will always be synonymous with Thor, and Love and Thunder with its deluge of criticisms will remain a major part of the actor’s filmography.
