In what is termed as the most exciting and anticipated boxing battle between the British professional boxer Tommy Fury and the controversial influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia, luck was in favor of Fury, who won the fight by a split decision made by the judges. For those who don’t know Fury, he starred in the reality TV dating show Love Island, and is dating the influencer Molly-Mae Hague, with whom he shares a child.
Two judges were in favor of Fury, who scored him 76-74 while there was one who scored 75-74 in favor of Paul. The audience was looking forward to their fight as both Paul and Fury share a history of tussle. It so happens the 23-year-old boxer was engaged in a war of words with Paul. Both parties exerted confidence about their potential and hurled insults at one another to prove it.
During the exchange, Fury said:
“Tomorrow night his time is up, Jake Paul will no longer be boxing. I’m going to put this man away inside four rounds. You’re going to see why our last name is Fury, because we’re the best at fighting to ever live, that’s the reason why.”
To which Paul responded:
“He’s acting up on stage. This professional boxer is going down, man. Easy. Simple. I’m ready, calm, cool, and collected. This is what I do. He’s never been in a moment like that. He’s shaking, you can see the nerves running through his system. He can’t stop moving. I’m chill, I’m a real killer, I don’t have to do all that acting s**t.”
Now, the match is over, the winner’s been declared, and Jake Paul — for the first time — faced a defeat in the boxing game. The question that remains is — how much did the players make from the match, especially how much has the winner, Tommy Fury taken home? As per Sports Zion, Fury’s base salary was $2 million and he also earned around $1 million as a bonus for winning the match.
Besides this, he would also receive 35 percent of the pay-per-view profits. As per the conditions of a previous fight between Paul and Fury, the former promised to pay $500,000 to the latter in case he turns out as the winner, which, as per their interactions, Jake was sure he won’t. Thus, the total amount which Fury, the winner of the match, has managed to gather is a hefty sum of nearly $6 million.
However, it seems that Fury’s opponent Paul would be taking more money home despite losing the game. A similar source suggested that Jake’s base salary was $3.2 million and he is entitled to 65 percent of pay-per-view profits, bringing his total amount to around $8.1 million.
There is no fixed reason for this salary gap. However, many are of the opinion that Paul’s popularity and infamy that includes his past notorieties are responsible for his relatively higher income.
