Helen Mirren has shared more information about her time in the Yellowstone spin-off, 1923, particularly about working with her co-star, Harrison Ford.
During Los Angeles Times’ Roundtable Drama series, Mirren claimed that working with Ford felt natural to her, despite years of not working with the actor. She explained that whenever she and Ford walked on set, they didn’t have to discuss anything and let their performance take control.
“I do feel a sort off connection with Harrison that is natural and easy and doesn’t have to be talked about. It doesn’t have to be worked on. We don’t have to discuss anything. Backstory or anything, we just walk on the set, look at it in each other’s eyes and off you go.”
Mirren also explained that despite years of not working with Ford, time and distance didn’t seem to affect their performance. Her relationship with her co-star seemed to resurface very quickly, as if it were yesterday. However, she claimed that it might be because of Ford’s professionalism or something else.
“Because I’m working with Harrison and because I worked with Harrison before many years ago. And it’s not like we’ve ever worked together in between…
… But to have that experience of working with someone and then not working with them at all at, all for like 20, 30 years. And then, suddenly finding yourself back in the pocket with them. And realizing that is a weirdest thing. That all of that time just telescopes and disappears. The people and the actors and the relationship just recreates so quickly.”
In 1923, Mirren and Ford play Cara and Jacob Dutton, the ancestors of Yellowstone‘s Dutton family. The actress has expressed in the past her love for Ford as close friends, and she also gave her thoughts on 1923 as an example of American history, alongside what she thought what the show was about. Prior to this show, the two worked together in the 1986 movie, The Mosquito Coast.
It was confirmed back in Feb. 2023 that season two of 1923 has been greenlit, and will contain eight episodes. While it’s currently unknown when the show’s second run of episodes will be released, all episodes of 1923‘s first season can be streamed on Paramount Plus.
