It would be a complete understatement to say that the last few years in the realm of the MCU haven’t exactly been top-notch cinema. With Phase Five project Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania failing to live up to the hype that the franchise once possessed, it hardly comes as a surprise that even Marvel performers are starting to pull back the curtain and get honest about the MCU’s current state — which is precisely the case for Thor star Chris Hemsworth.
While chatting with GQ, Hemsworth humbly touched on the subject matter of Phase 4 venture Thor: Love and Thunder, which was released back in 2022 to a lukewarm reaction. And while Hemsworth was masterful as always as the beloved superhero figure, it certainly didn’t stop the 39-year-old actor from being brutally honest about the direction of the fourth Thor movie. Hemsworth said:
“I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly. It’s always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective… I love the process, it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond.”
Following on from those words, Hemsworth simultaneously admitted that he both laughs and cringes at the film, expressing that the humor in the project was just too much. Of course, that’s not to say that Hemsworth hasn’t enjoyed portraying Thor after all these years. In fact, he explained that he “loved” the entire experience and that he was grateful that he was able to do something different with each Thor film.
Looking back, with sequences like a talking Korg head and screaming goats, it makes perfect sense why Hemsworth himself would feel a bit embarrassed by the movie’s lackluster editing. But hey, at least we have Ragnarok, right?
