It’s official; the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) strike has come to fruition, and if the alarm bells aren’t sounding off relentlessly in Hollywood just yet, then it’s exactly as detached from reality as this current state of affairs suggests. Indeed, we don’t know who had the idea that the creatives who actually put in the work to make all of our beloved films and shows should get a proportionate piece of the pie, but it certainly isn’t as revolutionary as Hollywood seems to think it is.
To put it bluntly, these strikes are a big deal; with writers and now actors rightfully refusing to work, we’ll be in for a demoralizing stretch of entertainment down the line, and if you’re still skeptical on how seriously you should be taking this, look no farther than Mica Burton, who has every intention on rolling up to the picket line in spite of a broken ankle.
Indeed, for the Star Trek: Picard star, a deeply painful, horse-riding-related injury is a mere asterisk when it comes to fighting the good fight against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers; as it turns out, when the cause is as vital as this, absence is not an option.
We wish Burton and all the rest of the SAG members the best of luck as they make themselves as loud and proud as possible in order to inject fear into an industry that deserves all the scrutiny in the world; here’s hoping a brighter future is on the horizon for the professional creatives of today and tomorrow.
