Despite how much progress we’ve seen in recent years, mental disorders or disabilities are still treated as something to be ashamed of by some people. Fortunately, Rob McElhenney is not one of those people.
Last night, the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star made use of the latest social media app, Threads, to speak about a subject close to home. With an uplifting tone, McElhenney shared with the world that he has been “recently diagnosed with a host of neurodevelopmental disorders and learning disabilities,” making sure to point out that he’s 46 years old. Indeed, it’s never too late to get medical attention.
While he didn’t share what his exact diagnosis is, McElhenney thought it important to open up about the subject, seeing as there are many people out there in similar situations:
“It’s not something I would normally talk about publicly but I figured there are others who struggle with similar things and I wanted to remind you that you’re not alone. You’re not stupid. You’re not “the bad kid”. It might feel that way sometimes. But it’s not true.”
The actor further explained those looking for a more in-depth conversation regarding this discovery will get one soon enough, in the form of an episode of The Always Sunny Podcast, which McElhenney co-hosts with Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day.
Just recently, the podcast landed the Mythic Quest star in trouble, when he name-dropped a controversial wellness tonic. At least now, McElhenney is being talked about for the best reasons.
