It takes a lot to get a heated reaction out of James Gunn when it comes to unfounded rumors regarding the DCU, but dragging his friend and collaborator Margot Robbie‘s name through the mud has proven to be a surefire way of irritating the studio’s co-CEO.
Even though she’s been flirting with the status of box office poison having headlined Birds of Prey, The Suicide Squad, Amsterdam, and Babylon in quick succession – all of which cratered thunderously in theaters – it would be wise to imagine the actress’ Harley Quinn will have some part to play in the franchise’s most recent overhaul due to the popularity of the character and her closeness to the man in charge.
With that in mind, the Guardians of the Galaxy director reacted furiously to false information claiming that he’d intentionally deleted a tweet about working with Robbie in the future on account of her boarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where she’s regularly been named as one of the front-runners to anchor Fantastic Four as Sue Storm.
Doubling down on his aggravations towards the outright lies, Gunn then incinerated the account in question even further after noting how he always likes to draw a distinction between “stupid lies and potentially harmful ones.”
Gunn and Robbie are still the best of buds, then, and it would be foolish not to expect one of his favored regular collaborators returning to the DCU fold, especially when Harley Quinn is one of the most marketable figures the sandbox has at its disposal.
