It’s been over two months since Jamie Foxx‘s daughter, Corinne, informed the public on April 12, 2023, that her father had been hospitalized due to an unspecified medical emergency. Foxx, who stars in the new Netflix sci-fi dramedy They Cloned Tyrone, was, unfortunately, unable to attend the film’s premiere on Wednesday at the American Black Film Festival in Miami Beach. However, Foxx’s co-star John Boyega spoke with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, expressing his regret at Foxx’s absence. The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actor said:
“I wanted him to show up here, but you know, I know he’s dealing with what he’s dealing with, and we just wish him all the best.”
Teyonah Parris, who also stars alongside Foxx in They Cloned Tyrone, chimed in with her own well-wishes and praise:
“I wish Jamie all the recovery and healing. He’s just so amazing. It was just such an honor to work with him. He’s so generous as an actor and as a human, along with John. I got lucky to be able to work with such dope men on this project, and dope men of color, that it was just so much fun.”
Jamie Foxx’s health problems have been the subject of much speculation due to a lack of publicly available facts. His daughter Corinne Foxx has been particularly active in correcting that miscommunication. On May 12, 2023, she posted on her Instagram Story that Foxx was resting well at home and had begun light exercise as part of his road to recovery. And according to TMZ, the Ray Charles actor is doing well and receiving physical therapy treatment at one of Chicago’s most excellent rehab facilities.
Foxx’s new movie, They Cloned Tyrone, premieres on Netflix on July 21; the plot follows a sequence of unexplained occurrences that leads an unlikeable trio down the rabbit hole of a sinister government conspiracy. Juel Taylor, making his feature film directing debut, helms the project from a screenplay by Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier. They Cloned Tyrone also has supporting performances by David Alan Grier and Kiefer Sutherland.
