When fan art hit Instagram recently imagining Margot Robbie as Sue Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four that is being promised for 2025, it was a great depiction that had fans wanting the film’s director Matt Shakman to make it happen. Then, they all realized what that might mean for a certain DC character they have all grown to love and adore.

The Harley Quinn actress has been faithfully playing the role since Suicide Squad in 2016 and has reprised her role in Birds of Prey in 2020 as well as The Suicide Squad in 2021. Despite Lady Gaga’s musical version set to come out in 2024 when she stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Joker: Folie à Deux, Margot Robbie is the fan favorite and they can’t imagine at this point Harley Quinn being played by anyone else.

So, the concern is that if she is cast as Sue Storm the way the rumors are strongly indicating, will she be able to continue with DC as Joker’s henchwoman?

Just as the conversation had started to fade into oblivion as more recent MC/DC news distracted the fans from talking about it, here it comes again.

It wasn’t very long after the reimagining of Robbie as Sue Storm that fans started wondering again if she would be able to retain her role in the enemy’s canon.

Robbie isn’t the only one rumored to have a role in the film. Despite the fact that a visit to the IMDb page for Fantastic Four lists absolutely no one, some cunning Hollywood spies have somehow divined that Adam Driver, Paul Mescal, and Daveed Diggs are also in the running.

The great thing is that fans might be finding out soon if they are right or wrong. The way Screen Rant lays out the timeline, if the movie is promised on February 14, 2025, then it is reported that filming will begin in January 2024. In order to make that happen, it has to have all the characters locked in by end of this year, and according to how Marvel has done things in the past, that means it will want to announce the stars at San Diego Comic-Con this year, which is in July.

Merely rumored at this point, fans have a legitimate concern and a good person to ask would be James Gunn himself. If Robbie plays Sue Storm, will Gunn work with her again?

It appears fans have nothing to worry about. One thing is for sure, Margot Robbie is loved on both sides of the big company comics battle and that’s something to feel good about.
