We can never get enough of Brie Larson — and she knows it. The 33-year-old Captain Marvel star continues to feed her followers with stunning photoshoots, exciting meet-and-greets and adorable doggy snapshots, but there’s a collaboration on the horizon that her recent Twitter/Instagram posts allude to that could send the Larson fanbase into a frenzy.

Larson last donned the skin-tight leather as Captain Marvel in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, only appearing in an uncredited mid-credits cameo. Before that, she was the saving grace in Avengers: Endgame, and now, Marvel fans are anticipating her major role in 2023’s The Marvels alongside Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel — a team-up that’s been years in the making. But we’re not talking Marvel today, no… we’re talking inspirational women, specifically none other than filmmaker Chloe Zhao.

Zhao gained international fame for her Western film Nomadland (2020), for which she won the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director, becoming the second woman and first woman of color to win the latter. Although we said this wasn’t about Marvel — isn’t everything? Although she’s a success story all on her own, Zhao also garnered recognition for directing the MCU film Eternals (2021), which she also co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Ryan Firpo, and Kaz Firpo. So Zhao has dabbled in the MCU, in which Larson plays Captain Marvel. Coincidence? We think not. If nothing else, that correlation only paves the way for a future Larson-Zhao collaboration, for which both ladies seem exceedingly eager. In fact, Larson’s latest tweet confirmed the enthusiasm and even teased a future project involving the two trailblazers.

Both Larson and Zhao are groundbreaking women in their own right; the former bringing to life a strong, independent superhero, and the latter making history as a WOC director. We’re not preaching feminism here, but we also… are. Although there have been complaints of the MCU becoming the “M-She-U,” there’s nothing wrong with a little diversity. Besides, inclusivity never hurt anyone. Perhaps we’ll finally get the long-awaited Captain Marvel 2 with Zhao helming the project. Either that, or we should expect a female-led superhero team-up of epic proportions (similar to The Marvels) in the near-distant future. We certainly seem to be heading in that direction, and Larson and Zhao being buddy-buddy only makes the forbidden fruit taste sweeter. And now, we can’t wait to see how the MCU unfolds.

Back in the beginning of January 2023, Zhao already shared images of the pair frolicking in the sunset, so Larson might be fashionably late to sharing the pictures, but if nothing else, that’s a sign of things to come.

That being said, it doesn’t need to be an MCU project that takes Zhao and Larson on their filmmaking journey. Everyone knows that Larson is partial to some drama performances every now and then, plus Zhao directed The Rider about a rodeo cowboy, so maybe we’ll get cowgirl-Larson soon enough. Wouldn’t that be a sight to behold? Zhao hasn’t directed since The Eternals, so she’s well overdue for a new film. As for Larson, she’s got a busy schedule, but we’re certain that she can open up a slot for Zhao. They’re best buds, after all.
