In a trend no one saw coming, the McDonald’s character Grimace has been all over TikTok, Instagram, and, well, everywhere. The only thing is, he has become a lot less family-friendly since the launch of the Grimace shake to celebrate his birthday. The trend has become so big that some celebs, like Courtney Cox, have also gotten in on the joke.
The Grimace Shake Trend
So, for those of you who, like me, are glued to reels as we seek to squeeze all the possible dopamine we can from our brains, you must have been aware of the newest and most comically horrifying trend to hit the likes of TikTok and Instagram, the Grimace Trend.
The trend goes like this, people buy the shake, looking all happy, wish Grimace a Happy birthday, take a sip, and then something “disturbing” happens.
Some people have gotten very creative with it, winding up dead, floating above buildings, exploding, foaming purple at the mouth, naked, covered in the purple substance, on fields in the middle of nowhere, possessed, floating face down in rivers, tied to lampposts, you name a horror trope, and it has probably been done for this trend.
Courtney Cox joins the trend
Friends’ star, Cox, got in on the fun too though she had her take on the disturbing trend. The actress is sat down on the grass and is about halfway through the shake, further than most people get through. She tells us,
“So apparently, it’s Grimace’s birthday, and I’ve seen a lot of people drink this shake, and weird stuff happens, but I’ve had half of it, and I don’t feel anything. I don’t love it, but I don’t get the big deal.”
She tosses down to drink only for her dog, Lily, to start licking at the straw, and here’s where the curse of Grimace kicks in. Cox backs away in horror, crying out, and we switch camera angles to the other side and see that Lily is now a huge monster of a dog with big purple ears.
We love to see actors and actresses get involved in the trends we mere mortals participate in, especially a seasoned horror movie actress like Cox. It almost makes them feel like one of us! Good job to Cox and Lily for their fantastic efforts in one of the most crazy trends we’ve seen in a while. This is what the internet was invented for.
