Comedian Theo Von is pushing back against claims that Roseanne Barr made incendiary anti-Jewish comments on his podcast after the chairman of the Democratic Coalition Against Trump — Jon Cooper — shared a video from the show.

Cooper shared a clip of Roseanne saying, “Nobody died in the Holocaust. It SHOULD happen. Six millions Jews SHOULD die right now, because they cause all the problems in the world.” In the post Cooper said, “Is anyone surprised that sicko Roseanne Barr supports Donald Trump?”

Von quote tweeted it and said the clip was “taken out of a long sarcastic rant,” and was out of context. “Can we not recognize sarcasm anymore?”

Von then shared a longer version of the clip where Roseanne talks sarcastically about the election and whether it was rigged. She seems to think it was, but with the longer clip it’s much easier to hear the sarcasm. The issue is her deadpan delivery, which makes it pretty easy to be fooled. Here’s the longer clip, which Von posted himself, saying she was “obviously using sarcasm and satire.”

Whether or not you agree with her politics — which by the way, people are going to have different opinions on stuff regardless — she’s a comedian and it’s her job to dissect things. In the clip, she also talks about how Biden won 81 million votes from “three counties.”

Not to go down the rabbit hole here, but the whole “Biden got 81 million votes” from not enough counties argument is pretty stale.

I’m not going to get into it but it’s been easily shown that fewer county wins doesn’t equate to fewer total votes. Is Barr spreading misinformation using sarcasm? It’s her truth but yeah it’s been debunked. Is she saying all Jews should die? No. The words are there, I guess, but the context is very important.
