When you have a famous father, you can’t live outside the spotlight for too long. Especially with all the drama surrounding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation trial, Depp’s 24-year-old daughter, French-American actress Lily-Rose, has been at the forefront of the public eye also. Thankfully, she was mostly kept separate from that whole debacle, allowed to continue building her career while her father fought for his. Lily-Rose was born to Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis on May 27, 1999, and she has one sibling, Jack Depp, who is 21 years old.
Depp began her professional acting career with a minor role in Tusk, portraying “Girl Clerk #2” as she’s credited. From that role onwards, she starred in several period dramas and short films, even becoming a brand ambassador for Chanel and appearing in Rejjie Snow’s music video for “All Around the World.” She divides her time between Los Angeles, Paris, and New York City, claiming to have Native American ancestry through her father. But rather than being known as simply “Johnny Depp’s daughter,” Lily-Rose has made a name for herself as one of the up-and-coming actors of our generation, although she hasn’t quite left her mark on the industry yet.
On June 4, the new drama TV series The Idol premiered on HBO Max, now known as simply Max. Depp stars as Jocelyn, a young pop idol and the love interest of Abel Tesfaye’s character Tedros. As the joint lead, this might be Depp’s biggest role yet, as well as her first-ever TV role. The series focuses on the complicated relationship between Tesfaye and Depp’s characters, one of whom lives in the limelight, the other of whom works as a self-help guru. Joining Tesfaye and Depp in supporting roles are Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Jennie Ruby Jane, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, Ramsey, and Hank Azaria.
Here’s a list of Depp’s other performances, all of which were either in short films or feature films:
- Wolf (Wildcat)
- Silent Night (Sophie)
- Voyagers (Sela)
- Crisis (Emmie Kelly)
- My Last Lullaby (Paloma)
- The King (Catherine)
- Savage (Laura)
- A Faithful Man (Ève)
- The Summoning (Kate Barlow)
- The Dancer (Isadora Duncan)
- Yoga Hosers (Colleen Collette)
- Tusk (Girl Clerk #2)
If you didn’t manage to catch the debut episode of The Idol, there will be six episodes in total for the first season, each of which will premiere every Sunday at 9:00 pm ET/PT. Anyone who’s a fan of the Depps can see the beginning of Johnny’s legacy through his daughter, who certainly takes the character of Jocelyn to a higher level than ever before.
