It seems that Twitch has banned PewDiePie‘s main account.
Felix Kjellberg’s fans on social media are reporting that his main account has just been restricted by Twitch. Indeed, if you go to PewDiePie’s page on the streaming website, there’s a tagline reading: “This channel is temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.”
This is the second time in 2023 that Twitch has banned PewDie’s account, so amid the rise of the platform’s rival, Kick, this will be setting an incredibly worrisome precedent. PewDiePie wasn’t sure why his account was banned in May, but he linked it to some of the content he did back in 2017. Starting a while ago, the Swedish YouTuber began streaming his old content on Twitch in what he called the “infinite” content loop, allowing more than 3000 hours of Poods awesomeness to play on the page nonstop. But now, with the benefit of hindsight, it seems that the controversial idea is more trouble than it’s worth.
Of course, it’s still officially unclear why the company has decided to ban the profile of one of its most prolific partners, but folks are speculating that it’s most probably a Terms of Service violation — something that has happened to a host of fellow streamers across the years due to the platform’s controversial moderating methods.
We don’t know the full scope of the situation yet, but we’ll be sure to update you if and when we learn more. Stay tuned!
