As a child, I was one to collect various comic book adaptations and novelizations of the movies that I enjoyed. Not only was it because I loved to read, but also because the wait for a movie to arrive on home video was much longer than it is today. Yes, I grew up in the VHS era, possibly causing some of you to wonder how I endured such primitive times.
Well, these days, this practice isn’t quite as common, but Marvel has been keeping it alive here and there with both adaptations and preludes. And while cases can be made for both types, the preludes can be especially exciting since they show us what characters are up to in between movies.
In the case of Avengers: Infinity War, the first of two issues to make up this particular miniseries has already been in the news due to its fleshing out of the Winter Soldier’s story. This time, however, we’re here to talk about Iron Man, a stalwart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and one of its very lynchpins.
Much like other superheroes who upgrade their look with each appearance on the silver screen, Tony Stark has adhered to this rule by adopting a stylish new armor each time we see him. Admittedly, Iron Man 2‘s suitcase suit remains my favorite, but it’s quite apparent that each of its successors are tricked out with specific functions that allow him to better serve a situation.
Well, the prelude we’ve been talking about is the first place where you can see his new rig, and a few pages can be sampled in the gallery above. But for more info, be sure to check out the official synopsis:
“When a terrorist puts the Avengers at odds, CAPTAIN AMERICA and THE WINTER SOLDIER go rogue to find him – but IRON MAN isn’t far behind. Will the Avengers survive the fallout? Then, find out where Captain America, the Falcon and the Black Widow are headed next – because the world needs heroes, whether it wants them or not. And get a sneak peek at Tony Stark’s brand-new armor! Get ready for MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR in part 1 of this special prelude!”
Avengers: Infinity War Prelude #1 is now available in comic shops. The movie, meanwhile, is set to open in theaters on May 4.
