With Marvel’s “Fresh Start” initiative now in full swing, we’re beginning to see a variety of solo series being relaunched on the heels of Avengers #1 (you can read our review for that here). Naturally, many of the House of Ideas’ marquee characters will be among the first to join the party, but what of a proven draw like Wolverine?
To be honest, the reason for the delay likely has much to do with the publisher allowing for Logan’s story to unfold organically, so there’s really no rush. Don’t forget, the poor guy came back from the dead not long ago, the details of which we’re slowly learning.
But once we have all of these Hunt for Wolverine one-shots out of the way, it’ll be time for my favorite mutant to headline his own ongoing title once again. In fact, the solicitation for August’s Hunt for Wolverine: Dead Ends #1 confirms Logan’s new gig.
Here’s the synopsis:
“The hunt for Wolverine is over… Now the time has come to put the pieces together and see what was learned. Kitty Pryde, Daredevil, Tony Stark and Sabretooth may have found what they were looking for…but it wasn’t what they expected. Where has Wolverine been? What has he been doing? And how does it lead into next month’s WOLVERINE #1?”
As you probably noticed, Wolverine #1 is slated to arrive in September, but we can’t elaborate beyond that until more info is provided. Furthermore, no creative team has been announced, but Charles Soule has to be the frontrunner when it comes to writers being selected. If not, X-Men scribes like Cullen Bunn and Marc Guggenheim should be taken under consideration.
Additionally, we can’t help but wonder if this announcement was intended to be slipped into Marvel’s August solicitations, or if someone made a mistake on the PR side of things. Either way, the cat’s out of the bag and you now have something to add to your pull list come fall.
