Our Favorite EDM Songs From May 2015

With the festival circuit now in full swing, May turned out to be a veritable mother lode of quality tracks from every shade of the dance music spectrum. This is the time of year at which every artist's management gives them the okay to finally drop whatever gems they've been sitting on to the public - and for good reason, as all it can take for a song to become a summer anthem is the right DJ playing it in front of the right crowd.

7) Magnificence & Alec Maire – Heartbeat (Nicky Romero Remix)

Recommended Videos

We were as excited as anybody to see that Nicky Romero had returned to the studio. The Protocol Recordings label head has always had a knack for out-of-this-world production values, and he lent some of his expertise to Protocol signees Magnificence and Alec Maire for this remix of their track “Heartbeat.”

Again, if not for the sheer talent Romero brings to the table as a producer, his remix of “Heartbeat” would amount to little more than another interchangeable festival track with a limited lifespan – but we can assure you we’ll be bumping to it for months to come.

8) Unknown Artist (Probably Zhu) – ID (Slowly)

If it looks like a Zhu song, sounds like a Zhu song, and people thing it’s a Zhu song, then it’s probably a Zhu song. But come on, if a demo was “anonymously” submitted to Proximity under any other circumstances it would get skipped over so fast that its producer’s theoretical head would spin.

Everyone knows these slow reveals are a gimmick staged by Zhu’s manager, Jake Udell, but as long as the music is this good, he can release it however he wants.

The track being referred to as “Slowly” immediately piqued our attention for its dreamy, rippling soundscapes and emotive lyrics. Considering Zhu’s activity of late, it will likely be released on his upcoming debut album along with everything else he’s premiered.
