Now that the dust has largely settled from last night’s Final Fantasy XV Uncovered event in Los Angeles, ardent FF followers are either still reeling from Square’s surprisingly boisterous showcase, or knee-deep in the Platinum Demo that is now available across PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Pegged to drop on September 30, Square Enix also outlined the sprawling story that awaits in FFXV, which is set to take place across a “boundless open world” In it, you’ll take control of Noctis, a decorated prince and would-be king who is betrayed by the power-mongering Niflheim empire.
Disillusioned, he sets about searching for his father, a journey that will bring him closer to his trusted band of allies – namely Ignis, Prompto and Gladiolus. Retaining much of the “fantasy based on reality” dynamic that underpinned the sequel formerly known as Versus XIII – during a time when Tetsuya Nomura oversaw development – the story synopsis reveals that despite the many changes layered onto Final Fantasy XV, Square’s massive world is still oddly familiar.
Set in an enthralling world where fantasy meets reality, players will join Crown Prince Noctis and his comrades on an epic journey of brotherhood, love and despair as they unravel Noctis’s destiny and take up arms against the warmongering empire, Niflheim. With a captivating cast of characters, breathtaking visuals, open world exploration and action-packed real time combat, FINAL FANTASY XV is the ultimate FINAL FANTASY experience for fans and newcomers to the series.
The massive world of FINAL FANTASY XV was implemented with real-time changes such as time, weather and behavior of NPCs. From bustling town to grassy plain, luxuriant forest or dim caves, players will be given the option to explore the world and proceed the game freely.
It’s been a long time – too long. But not much longer. Final Fantasy XV will launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 30. To get up to speed with Noctis’ adventures, you can catch the first episode of the JRPG’s animated series, Brotherhood.
