While you’ll have to wait just a bit longer to get your hands on the full version of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice, fans will be happy to hear that as of today, you can preview a small sample of the upcoming game, thanks to a newly released demo on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.
For those who are looking for a bit of background knowledge, you can also check out the game’s prologue anime video, which does a better job of explaining some of the backstory that leads up to where the demo kicks off.
Spirit of Justice‘s demo is (at first glance), the same one that was available for preview during E3 2016, for those who took the time to stop by Capcom’s booth. It sees Phoenix Wright, who is travelling in the exotic and foreign land of Khura’in, quickly swept up in a murder case, as his local tour guide, Ahlbi’ Ur’gaid, is put on trial for the murder of Paht Rohl. As you might have guessed, Capcom’s new localization team is still placing a large emphasis on puns, which is bound to please fans of the series.
The first portion of the demo sticks to the main gameplay mechanics that have defined the series over the years. As Phoenix, you’ll listen to witnesses, uncover new information by pressing witnesses on specific parts of their testimony, and if all goes well, point out contradictions from evidence that you’ve collected. The game’s newest feature, Divination Seances, are shown off during the second half. Here, Princess Rayfa of the Khura’in Kingdom uses her channeling powers to communicate with the deceased during their final moments, and it’s up to Phoenix and company to make sense of these visions.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice will be available on September 8th, exclusively on the 3DS eShop. Stay tuned for our full review of the game, which should go live in the coming weeks.
