The official Lego Batman Twitter account announced this week that former Batman and current mayor of Quahog, Adam West, will appear as himself in the upcoming Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. The account also revealed that the actor will be featured as a special guest during the games panel at San Diego Comic-Con next week.
Following in the footsteps of 2012’s Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, Lego Batman 3 once again lets players control Lego figurine versions of their favorite DC Comics heroes and villains. While Batman is still the main attraction here (hence his name in the title), the rest of the Justice League will also need to help out in order to defeat Brainiac in this space-set adventure.
While the youth of today may be more familiar with Christian Bale’s portrayal of the Dark Knight, Adam West was one of the first actors to portray the iconic superhero. Airing from 1966 to 1968, the Batman television show was a less than serious take on the character that featured villains such as The Joker, Catwoman and, uh, Egghead. In addition to his work as the Caped Crusader, West is also known for his voicework for shows such as Family Guy and The Fairly OddParents.
With this news and the recent news that the original Batman show will finally be released on DVD and Blu-Ray in November, it’s turning out to be quite the year for Mr. West. His portrayal of Bruce Wayne holds a special place in my heart and I look forward to seeing him pop up in this game, even if it is most likely just in a small role. It will all be worth it if I can beat the tar out of Superman with the 85-year old actor.
Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is slated to launch later this year for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita and PC.
