Today D3Publisher announced that players can expect to explore the magical world of Ooo once more in the upcoming Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON’T KNOW!
Developed by WayForward, who created the first game for the hit cartoon show, the new title promises to have up to four player co-op featuring a variety of characters from the series. In addition, this outing into the whimsical world will feature full voice work by the show’s actors and input from series’ creator Pendleton Ward.
Check out some more details in an excerpt from the press release below:
“Following the mathematical success of the IGN Editors’ Choice Award-winning Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d You Steal Our Garbage?!!, show creator Pendleton Ward again teams up with developer WayForward to create Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON’T KNOW!. The all-new action game will be available for the first time ever on the Wii U™ system from Nintendo, the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Windows PC, as well as a return to the Nintendo 3DS™ hand-held system this fall. In a completely new storyline and adventure and featuring the voices of the show’s most popular characters, fans will have to save the Candy Kingdom by exploring the mysteries surrounding a massive Secret Royal Dungeon deep below the Land of Ooo. Select from an assortment of fan-favorite characters from the show, including Finn, Jake, Marceline, Cinnamon Bun, and more, and team up with your friends in four-player co-operative multiplayer as the Adventure Time world comes to life. Adventure Time is the pop culture sensation, Emmy® Award-nominated, top-rated animated comedy, and its popularity continues to soar across the globe among fans of all ages.”
It will be interesting to see what the game will look like considering Adventure Time’s unique style. The wildly wacky show is one of Cartoon Network’s most popular series, drawing in a surprisingly large fan base of both young and old. WayForward’s first attempt with the show was largely mixed, so hopefully this time around they can deliver an experience that can be enjoyed by people who aren’t fans of the show already.
One of the more shocking things about Adventure Time is the surprisingly dark background for the animated show. Ward has gone on record stating that the world of Ooo is actually a post-apocalyptic Earth that was devastated by a nuclear war. Throughout the five seasons the show has been on the air, remnants of various modern technologies can be seen in the background such as destroyed cars and subway stations. I can’t help but to wonder if WayForward intends to include such content in a game that is meant to be enjoyed by all ages.
Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON’T KNOW! is expected to launch sometime during Fall 2014 on the Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3, PC and 3DS.
