Next week, horror enthusiasts will be able to take a trip to a natural disaster and disease ravaged version of our beautiful planet. Having once been a haven for humanity, it has become the exact opposite. Catastrophic events and plagues caused by global warming, have turned our kind into monsters. Developed by VectorCell Studios and published by Lexis Numérique, AMY is a survival horror game which pits players into this world in chaos environment. It’s set to launch onto XBLA and PSN next week.

In AMY, players control a young woman named Lana. Waking up after a comet has struck her hometown of Silver City, she quickly notices that the familiar town isn’t what she remembers it being. A mysterious disease has turned its inhabitants into a ravenous and violent horde. Feeling all right at the moment, she has the terrifying sense that her body has also been infected by the silent virus, which threatens to turn her into a zombie-like creature. Thankfully, Lana meets a young girl autistic girl (AMY,) who is in possession of some strange powers.

One of the main mechanics within this incredibly interesting (and great-looking) game, is the fact that Lana must stay within a close proximity to her young friend. After a while apart, the aforementioned disease will start to take its toll on our surprised heroine, eventually turning her into a monster like the others. While infected, she can slip by enemies undetected. However, with the child close-by, those effects are kept at bay. The two can work together to make tough decisions, which will aid their attempt at survival, also contributing positively to the situation at hand.

AMY will launch onto the North American PlayStation Network service, on January 10, at a price of $12.99. An XBLA release will follow the next day, with a listing price of 800 Microsoft Points, which is a noticeably better deal. It will be made available through a partnership with Namco Bandai Games.

European gamers will also be able to download the eerie campaign on January 11, when it will become available on their PSN and XBLA servers. They will not have to wait, unlike PC gamers. VectorCell has announced that the game is in-development for that platform, without a launch date as of yet.

Being an avid fan of interesting horror fiction in all forms, I cannot wait to check this one out.

Lexis Numérique announces AMY’s release on PlayStation®Network and Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA in partnership with NAMCO BANDAI Partners).

Lexis Numérique, one of Europe’s biggest independent videogame studios, have also released images of some of the horrors that confront Lana and Amy during their journey.

The story takes place in December 2034. Global warming has taken effect, causing widespread disease and an upsurge in natural disasters around the globe. The small town of Silver City (Midwest, USA) is directly affected – mostly by a comet that has crashed into town. As Lana, one of Silver’s stricken citizens, regains consciousness – she witnesses the onset of a new kind of mayhem. Violent outbursts, fury, rage, wreckage and death: the world she knew seems to have gone to hell.

Apparently consumed by a mysterious illness, people she once knew are now part of a wild, ravenous horde. In spite of her wounds, she runs – she must escape this nightmare. Lana can tell that, deep within her, the viral process has begun but refuses to become one of them. Later, an autistic eight-year-old girl with strange powers will force her to make choices that change both their lives. Her name is Amy.

Infected humans, grisly creatures, special forces and even other survivors: they will have to trust and help each other to escape their pursuers in a desperate attempt to survive.

Amy, Paul Cuisset’s new videogame, is a survival-horror based on a rich, fascinating and disturbing story. It’s available on January 11th, 2012 on PlayStation®Network for 9.99€ / £7.99 and on Xbox LIVE for 800 MS points.

Developed by VectorCell Studios, supervised by Paul Cuisset, the French creator of legendary games such as Flashback and the Moto Racer series.
