During Gamescom, Namco Bandai Games released images and video for plenty of upcoming titles, one of these was the mech game Armored Core V for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Armored Core V is the next in a long line of mech action titles in which players hop into their favorite giant robots and head out onto the battlefield for what else but giant robot battling action.
Players can customize their robots with a variety of options and play through a single player mode as well as online, which in V is expected to be newly designed and focus on huge team based battles. One thing gamers may or may not like about this title compared to the others though is that the robots will be smaller in scale and gameplay will center on tactics and utilization of geography rather than just mindless pummeling.
The new trailer shows off some of the fast paced action players will see in the online battle mode and the screens give a glimpse of the overhead view as well as lets players see just how impressive these mechs look.
Now this may sound a bit strange but the Armored Core series has been a favorite of mine for one major reason, I’m a big fan of anime. While it may not be Gundam, the Armored Core games are as close to the giant robot action I long for, without playing like a Dynasty Warriors title.
The smaller robots look to have helped the game speed wise from the look of the trailer and the pace of the battles seem like they will be a lot quicker in Armored Core V. We’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out when the game releases in 2012.
