With the much-touted brawler already selling like gangbusters on the company’s handheld, Nintendo has finally revealed that Super Smash Bros. will grace Wii Us in North America on November 21st. In terms of other territories, those in Europe and Australia can expect the title on December 5th and December 6th, respectively.
In tandem with announcement, the Big N also detailed the sales performance for Super Smash Bros. 3DS, which has sold over 2.8 million units thus far — a figure that was no doubt made possible by the game’s debut on the Japanese market, where it sold through 1 million copies in a single weekend.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Wii U version sells by comparison. Eight weeks is a significant window of time in the video game industry — particularly for a release that is skewed across two platforms. Of course, ardent fans of the series may be holding off to experience the franchise’s latest entry on a home console.
Closing off Nintendo’s latest announcement was fresh details of the NFC-powered Amiibo range. It’s been confirmed that the first batch of figurines will be available alongside Super Smash Bros.’ aforementioned North American release date, while those in the UK can expect the Skylanders-esque range to debut one week later on November 28th.
That first wave in question will include Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Pikachu, Kirby and Marth. And to complement the arrival of the toys and give parents across the country a headache in time for Christmas (inadvertently, of course), Nintendo is prepping a second wave that includes half a dozen of the company’s beloved characters — Zelda, Diddy Kong, Luigi, Little Mac, Pit and Captain Falcon.
At long last, we know that Super Smash Bros. will arrive on Wii U on November 21st in North America, while European and Australian gamers can expect the brawler on December 5th and December 6th, respectively.
