Atomic Heart has been out for a couple of days now and we’ve had a chance to play the game and learn more about it. While there’s a huge cast of voice actors ranging from minor to major roles within the game, the credits don’t tell us who voiced which character in the game. But we do now know who we can expect to hear in the game, and, more importantly, whether Jensen Ackles voices a character within the game.
The first-person shooter game allows players to control a veteran who must fight against homicidal robots and malfunctioning biomechanical weapons that have turned hostile and killed their creators. A live-action trailer for the game that gave players a taste of the insanity and action that was to come was posted on Focus Entertainment’s YouTube channel a week before the game’s release. It featured Dean Winchester himself, (Jensen Ackles) just generally being his awesome self and got fans hyped. You can see him for yourself in the trailer below.
Jensen’s involvement in the trailer also gave rise to speculation that he may be voicing a character in the game. Similar to how Keanu Reeves promoted CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 and also played a character within the game’s universe. Sadly however, Ackles name is completely absent from the list of voice actors credited, guess we may as well stop playing now.
While it was always unlikely that the relatively unknown Mundfish (the studio behind Atomic Heart) would be able to get a big name like Jensen Ackles on board to voice a main character in the game it didn’t stop us from hoping. Then again, perhaps it’s best Ackles not get too involved considering the controversy surrounding the game.
In fact, there aren’t really any major names within the voice cast. The most well-known actor we could find was Bill Hope, who’s appeared in numerous Hollywood roles. His most famous role being Lieutenant Gorman in Aliens, you know – the guy who gets his squad killed before ultimately biting the dust himself? Other video game voice actors have been credited too — Alex Jordan being one of the most experienced — he’s been credited in other games such as the TellTale Game of Thrones and Warhammer: Darktide, and also voiced multiple characters in the Amazing World of Gumball.
While it’s a shame not to hear the gruff but charming voice of Jensen Ackles within the game we’re lucky we got to see him smashing some robots in the trailer. Anyway, let’s face it, no one’s really playing the game for the voice cast, we just want to fight and smash some big robots.
