Despite an initial delay, the world of Pandora and the world of gaming are about to collide as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora now has an official release date — and it’s been long awaited. James Cameron‘s magnificent world will be arriving on game consoles and PCs at the end of this year. You can’t keep the Na’vi down.

Cameron has created one of the most visually spectacular worlds in cinema history with Avatar, and audiences across the globe are constantly blown away by Pandora’s beauty. The film had such an impact on people that some developed depression after seeing it because their own lives seemed much greyer in comparison. Though we may not yet have the technology to head to distant and fantastical planets, we can immerse ourselves in Pandora on our screens (the new way to live) thanks to the upcoming game release.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a first-person action-adventure game that will allow you to explore a part of the world that has yet to be trekked through, the Western Frontier. You will meet with other Na’vi tribes as you form alliances to take on the RDA who have come to threaten your home. You can customize your character, learn to wield human and Na’vi weapons, interact with the planet at the Na’vi do, and even tame your ikran.

The world premiere trailer gives fans a good idea of what story they will follow, as they will take on the form of a Na’vi character taken from their home as a child and trained as a guard of the RDA, only to be freed later on. As this character, you can explore Pandora, reconnect to your home, and fight again beside your people when the RDA eventually returns.

When does Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora release?

The game’s initial release window was missed, but it’s unlikely that it will be offputting to excited gamers, especially with the success of the second film, Avatar: The Way of Water. Frontiers of Pandora is set to be a slam dunk for Ubisoft. This isn’t the only Avatar game that has faced delays, either, with the mobile phone game Avatar: Reckoning having also had its release date pushed from 2022 to 2023.

The game has been designed for Ubisoft by Massive Entertainment and will be available on PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S, and Amazon Luna. The updated release date was announced at Ubisoft’s Summer Game Fest Preview, along with the above trailer announcing that the game will be released on Dec. 7, 2023.

In the meantime, Avatar: The Way of Water is now available to stream on Disney Plus if you need to get your Pandora fix.
