In today’s IndieWorld showcase, Nintendo announced Axiom Verge 2 will be available on Nintendo Switch later today.
The original Axiom Verge was an immensely popular indie Metroidvania and a passionate love-letter to half of the genre’s namesake, Metroid. In the sequel, an eccentric billionaire named Indra explores an alien world after being guided by “voices that seem to be calling to her.” Players must explore to survive, upgrading their abilities and traversing across easy-to-learn, difficult-to-master platforming segments along the way.
Axiom Verge 2’s release came as a surprise to many in the gaming community. While Axiom Verge 2 previously received gameplay previews and trailers, the game’s launch date remained unknown. Luckily for non-Switch owners, Axiom Verge 2 isn’t a Nintendo exclusive. The game also launches on PlayStation 4 and PC today, with a PS5 iteration “coming soon as well,” according to the game’s official website.
Additional platforms are on the way.
