From Software may have came out guns blazing with the release of the truly excellent Bloodborne, but it was Visceral Games’ Battlefield Hardline that retained the number one spot in the UK Charts, according to retail analyst Chart-Track.

As a matter of fact, the margin between the two was almost indiscernible in the grand scheme of things, with Bloodborne missing out on a chart-topping debut by a mere 22,500 units. Much like previous weeks, Chart-Track doesn’t factor in digital sales of any software listed below — speaking of which, here is this week’s top ten in full.

1) Battlefield Hardline
2) Bloodborne
3) Borderlands: The Handsome Collection
4) Grand Theft Auto 5
5) FIFA 15
6) Dying Light
7) Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
8) Far Cry 4
9) Minecraft: Xbox Edition
10) The Order: 1886

While this is no doubt a major coup for Visceral Games and Hardline, especially when you consider that the game failed to emulate the launch-week sales of its immediate predecessor, Battlefield 4, it’s worth keeping in mind that From Software’s gothic RPG launch exclusively on PlayStation 4 — a limited launch that no doubt stymied its financial reach.

As for the remainder of the chart, fellow newcomer Borderlands: The Handsome Collection bowed in at third place, while the usual suspects (Grand Theft Auto V, FIFA 15 and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare) rounded in the middle spots.

Looking ahead to next week and there isn’t much in terms of new software releases. So, will Bloodborne, buoyed by good word of mouth, have the momentum to pip Battlefield Hardline at the post? Or will Visceral Games shooter hold onto the crown for a third consecutive week?
