Bethesda is kicking off the inaugural DOOM alpha test tomorrow, October 23, and the studio has published a high-octane sizzle reel from the vertical slice to whet our appetites.
Featuring the old-school 6v6 team deathmatch mode, all of the action will take place across the Heatwave map, an industrial-styled arena that has cropped up time and time again across the shooter’s array of trailers.
Prepping for the alpha test going live, Bethesda has asked budding participants to keep their eyes peeled for a trio of “game-changing” features, and here’s a rundown of those new-fangled additions.
- The Demon Rune, which can turn the tide of a battle by transforming a player into a bad-ass Revenant fully loaded with dual rocket launchers and a jetpack.
- The Gauss Cannon, a high-powered weapon that can destroy a foe in a single blast.
- Power-ups like Quad Damage and Invisibility – you can guess what each of these does.
Those who pre-ordered Bethesda’s Wolfenstein: The New Order prior to its debut last year will get immediate access to the planned beta test in early 2016, at which point the studio will be gearing up to the shooter’s much-anticipated release.
As the first of many planned alpha tests, Bethesda has confirmed that this particular vertical slice will go live from Friday, October 23 at 12:01 ET and runs through Sunday, October 25 at 11:59 ET. All Hell will really break loose when DOOM launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in early 2016.
