Bethesda “No Plans” For Fallout 4 Paid Mods; Canine Companion Dogmeat Can’t Die

Earlier this year, both Valve and Bethesda were caught up in quite the kerfuffle in relation to paid mods in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, leading both companies to quickly pull the feature from the open-world RPG. Well, it seems that the latter developer has taken heed after the negative reaction, as it now has "no plans" to implement paid for mods in Fallout 4.

Earlier this year, both Valve and Bethesda were caught up in quite the kerfuffle in relation to paid mods in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, leading both companies to quickly pull the feature from the open-world RPG. Well, it seems that the latter developer has taken heed after the negative reaction, as it now has “no plans” to implement paid for mods in Fallout 4.

That’s according to a report by Kotaku, who quote Game Director Todd Howard, who effectively allayed any fears by stating that there is no plans for the add-on at this time. For the uninitiated, paid for modes allow skilled creators to monetize their in-game modifications on the marketplace, but in terms of the Skyrim furore, the once-novel idea was soon twisted by mismanagement and a general backlash from the Steam community. With this in mind, it’s hardly surprising that both Valve and Bethesda are playing it safe with Fallout 4.

Speaking of which, Dogmeat – an affectionate moniker given to your canine companion ever since the first Fallout in ’97 – cannot be killed throughout the course of the post-apocalyptic, nor is the trusty ally playable at any stage.

Such is the brutal and unforgiving nature of Fallout 4‘s world that many had assumed Dogmeat would become one of the many casualties as the story progressed. But I Am Legend this is not, and we can now all breath a collective sigh of relief that our furry best friend won’t be kicking the bucket anytime soon.

Circling back to that thorny paid mods issue, though, what do you think? Indeed, are you pleased that Bethesda is coy about introducing the feature once more following the Skyrim debacle? Let us know below.

Fallout 4 launches November 10.
