Irony. The feeling you get when you go through dozens of press releases through your email a day and think nothing more than “it’s my job to post these.” Then comes the day when your name is actually IN one. Oh well, time for a little shameless self promotion!
If you’re looking for something to do during E3 week while you’re in the LA area, whether you’re attending the show or just standing outside the convention center drooling over the people who CAN, Video Games Live is proud to announce that they’ll be making the rounds at the Nokia Theatre for the fourth year in a row during E3, which just so happens to be a stone’s throw away from the actual E3 show anyway. So why not?
“Video Games Live?” you say, “But Mike, haven’t we heard that name here before?” Yes, children, you have. It was that thing I wrote that amazing feature article about almost two months ago in which I rocked out on stage with VGL to the beat of Pokemon and Final Fantasy.
Well the first time was so much fun, we’re gonna do it again. VGL is coming back to Los Angeles in a big way. The E3 show is always the one where VGL makes all their biggest premieres and makes the biggest show out of everything new, and has the most people show up that you may or may not know. Because what if I told you that all new segments featuring the music of Diablo III, Skyrim, Earthworm Jim and Journey?
No? What if I told you that a handful of special guest performers will be in attendance performing some of their favorite video game music, like Laura “Flute Link” Intravia with her famed Mario and Zelda 25th Anniversary segments. “The Video Game Pianist” Martin Leung will be there debuting the greatest music from the likes of Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country. The band Toto will be on hand to perform their song Hold the Line with the winner of the Guitar Hero competition. Lindsey Stirling of America’s Got Talent fame will take the stage to add her unique stage presence to the show. Hell, I’ll be there to overload everyone’s nostalgia bars with a medley of music from Star Fox 64 done in my signature shredding style. And those are only the ones I can tell you about!
Still not convinced? How about special guest appearances from some of the biggest names in the video game industry like Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert from Double Fine, Russell Brower from Blizzard, Akira Yamaoka of the Silent Hill games, Warren Spector of Deus Ex and Disney Epic Mickey fame? And tons more.
Okay, fine, there’s also going to be free giveaways from the likes of AMD, Samsung and Ubisoft. That should satisfy everyone.
If you’ve been convinced by now (which you should have,) and can make it to the LA area on June 6, tickets are available here.
