Not everyone likes throwing hard-earned cash at their mobile devices to download apps, but fans of BioShock may be willing to make an exception this morning. According to a report over on EuroGamer, the 2K-published first-person masterpiece is available for fans to download on their Apple devices.
The game is currently available in the UK at the rather hefty price of £10.49. It’s also been released in New Zealand for $19 and gamers in America will be waking up today with their own US copy available for $14.99. This seems like quite a lot of money to spend on an app considering the console version can be purchased for £14.99 (around $24 US), so the question remains, will it be worth it?
With mobile games generally being kept simplistic, how well will something like BioShock translate onto Apple products? Considering the fact that the game is rather fast-paced and complex, how will players cope with having to use touch screen controls to move and shoot? Minecraft seems to have done pretty well on iOS, but let’s not forget that it still falls in the realm of ‘casual gaming.’
BioShock was originally scheduled for a mobile release back in 2008, merely one year after blowing our collective minds away on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. At the time, a game of this magnitude would have been quite a feat to see on mobile hardware. Six years later, it appears we are finally ready to see a port of the game that we can play while out and about.
According to the official iTunes store, BioShock iOS is compatible with iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, iPad 4, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, and iPhone 5. However it will not be compatible with earlier devices, including: iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad 1, iPad Mini 1, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 5, iPod Touch 4, or iPod Touch 3.
