As part of Activision’s new three-year development cycle for Call of Duty, one studio that is a core part of that trifecta alongside Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward is Treyarch. Having brought World at War to life back in 2008 not to mention the critically-acclaimed Black Ops sub-franchise, the Californian company is a key member of Acitivion’s grand vision for its first-person behemoth.
And now, it’s understood that Treyarch will take point for Call of Duty 2015, promising a blockbuster installment that will be locked and loaded with innovation. Activision made the announcement during a call to investors, though there was nary an indication of a release date or actual title.
Still, if history has taught us anything it’s that the publisher will likely lift the veil on this year’s iteration in and around May ahead of a full release in the fall. Given that this is Treyarch, it’ll be interesting to see where the creative team plan to situate Call of Duty 2015. Now that World War II and the Vietnam War are well-tread ground, coupled with the fact that Sledgehammer’s Advanced Warfare pushed the IP far into the future, bringing the action back to one of the World Wars could prove to be a good tonic for fans of the monumental series.
Moreover, given that Treyarch are the experts behind CoD’s wonderfully addictive Zombies Mode, we can expect the beloved survival-based game mode to make an appearance in the final product.
In related news, we learned just yesterday that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare‘s Havoc DLC will arrive on PC and PlayStation platforms at the end of this month.
