Blast Game Mode Is Star Wars Battlefront’s Spin On Team Deathmatch

Up until now, almost every pixel of marketing material for DICE's upcoming Star Wars Battlefront has focused on not only the shooter's large and open levels, but also its striking commitment to realism. Now, as promised, the studio has turned the attention to an all-new multiplayer mode making its way into the licensed title: Blast.

Up until now, almost every pixel of marketing material for DICE’s upcoming Star Wars Battlefront has focused on not only the shooter’s large and open levels, but also its striking commitment to realism. Now, as promised, the studio has turned the attention to an all-new multiplayer mode making its way into the licensed title: Blast.

Dividing players into teams of 10, the game mode itself takes many cues from the traditional team deathmatch – though not without a few twists of its own. First off, Blast will offer up a concentrated 10-minute, er, blast of action wherein each team scrambles to rack up 100 kills. Focusing on close-quarters action, there will be no vehicles included in the mode, while Heroes and Villains are left on the sidelines, too. Designed for a pure gameplay experience, DICE is aiming to make Blast “immediate, addictive, and exciting until the very last kill.”

This naturally means the creation of smaller levels, though as noted on the official Star Wars Battlefront page, said levels have been designed specifically for Blast, replete with tight corridors and low ceilings.

Say you’ve just played Walker Assault mode on Hoth and then switched to Blast, still on Hoth. Thanks to variations in lighting and time of day, you’ll definitely see a difference.

Including interior levels based around Tatooine and Endor, Battlefront‘s new-fangled mode will have you scouring the battlefield in order to top up your ammunition, with other weapons also littered across the ultra-realistic environments.

Whether you pick up a Droid scanning for nearby enemies or a turret that’ll control a zone for you, the pickups can really turn the tide of a Blast match. They are not around every corner though, so keep your eyes peeled.

Star Wars Battlefront will bring a galaxy far, far away to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 17.
