For the past week, EA Sports has been teasing the appearance of a mystery fighter in their upcoming EA Sports UFC. Now, the company has revealed that martial arts legend and iconic film star Bruce Lee will enter the octagon when the title launches on June 17.
While the idea of Lee, who passed away in 1973, appearing in a UFC game may seem a little odd, creative director Brian Hayes doesn’t see it that way at all:
“I can’t conceive of a universe where bringing these two things together doesn’t make sense. I know there are going to be countless fans that feel the exact same way and they will be eager play with such a legend in the UFC Octagon. I am one of them.”
In order to achieve an accurate representation of Lee, the team behind EA Sports UFC worked with Bruce Lee Enterprises, who provided them with a library of digital references, behind-the-scenes shots of the actor and a life-cast of his body in order to perfectly recreate him. With all of this info to aid them, Lee should look as good as the current UFC roster represented in the game, most of whom were scanned exclusively for the title.
According to EA, Bruce Lee will be useable in flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight divisions upon being unlocked following the completion of the game’s career mode on pro difficulty or higher. He can also be unlocked early by pre-ordering the title from select retailers.
EA Sports UFC will launch on June 17 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Tell us, are you excited about Bruce Lee appearing in the game?
