Call Of Duty: Black Ops III Is The First In The Series To Run At 30 FPS On Last-Gen

Call Of Duty: Black Ops III won't run at 60 FPS for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, its developers have confirmed. The worrying revelation for those still not bothered about making the leap to the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 means that the last-gen versions of the game will be the very first Call Of Duty games not to run at 60 FPS.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops III won’t run at 60 FPS for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, its developers have confirmed. The worrying revelation for those still not bothered about making the leap to the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 means that the last-gen versions of the game will be the very first Call Of Duty titles not to run at 60 FPS.

In the interview with Develop, creative director for the game, Thomas Wilson, said that both Beenox and Mercenary Technology – the two studios responsible for the last-gen ports – had “tried to hit” the desired 60, but had run into various difficulties while doing so. Wilson continued to say that, “we’re basically looking at  something like 30fps. But still, the experience is very enjoyable, otherwise it’s not Call of Duty.”

Moreover, series publisher Activision have said in the past that the 60 FPS benchmark so rigorously adhered to in the past was one of the franchises’ “key pillars.”

The frame rate woes for the last-gen version of Black Ops III is just the latest troubling announcement for the game, though. It has already been confirmed that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will not feature a campaign mode, containing only the multiplayer and Zombies modes.

How big of an effect the downgrade in frame rate will have on the third entry in the series remains to be seen, and I guess we’ll just have to wait for a final verdict on November 9, when the game releases for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
