After leaking out over the weekend, Activision and Infinity Ward have gone ahead and officially revealed Extinction, a brand new 1-4 player co-op mode for Call of Duty: Ghosts. Said to feature a “unique blend of fast-paced survival action, FPS base defense, scavenging and class levelling,” Extinction will be similar to the Zombies mode found in previous CoD entires, only with aliens.

Yup, that’s right, you’ll be fighting off waves of increasingly difficult aliens in Ghosts‘ Extinction mode, and judging by this newly released trailer, it looks like it’s going to be a ton of fun. Those disappointed by the exclusion of Zombies in Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty games should be more than pleased with what’s being offered here.

Personally, I’ve always loved the Zombies mode that’s been included in Treyarch’s entires, so I’m thrilled to see that IW is finally putting their own little spin on it. It should be interesting to see how the two modes compare as well, and which one fans prefer. Either way, you can bet that I’ll be sinking a ton of hours into Extinction once I get my hands on the game.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will release on November 5th for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. It will then make its way to the next-gen consoles on their respective launch dates.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you make of the game’s new Extinction mode. Do you think it will be as fun as Zombies?
