To stoke the excitement ahead of its debut next week, Activision and Treyarch have released an all-new trailer for the Call of Duty: Black Ops III multiplayer beta, which is poised to kick off on PlayStation 4 come August 19. In accordance with Sony and Activision’s new-fangled deal, the bout of testing will remain exclusive to the platform for one week, after which it’ll switch over to Xbox One and PC owners, allowing them to get a taste of the studio’s explosive, futuristic war.
Comprised of a hoard of maps, Specialist classes and no less than 7 distinct modes, Black Ops III‘s multiplayer beta is certainly not light on content. Mind you, much like the vast majority of test phases for first-person shooters, any character progress or perks that are unlocked won’t carry over to the full game when it releases in November.
In the video, Treyarch teases, “Be among the first to play Call of Duty: Black Ops III with the online Multiplayer Beta. Get your hands on the new weapons, experience the Specialists system, and try out weapon customization with the Weapon Paint Shop.”
From the off, we knew that the studio was doubling down on weapon customization, and we’re excited to see the granular detail the creative team have poured into Black Ops III‘s arsenal. Beyond that, with 8 Specialist classes to choose from – which are set to supplant the franchise’s traditional class system – it’ll take some time before fans and newcomers alike find their groove in Treyarch’s threequel.
Treyarch has confirmed that the Call of Duty: Black Ops III multiplayer beta will rappel onto PlayStation 4 first on August 19, before making the jump to Xbox One and PC on August 26. The shooter will release in earnest on November 6.
