Even now, three months following the November launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops III, it’s still a little odd to see the franchise favoring the PlayStation 4. As part of the agreement between series publisher Activision and Sony, all DLC for the title will be launching for the top-selling console first, including the Awakening map pack, which is now available.
Following in the footsteps of previous DLC for the franchise, Awakening brings four new multiplayer maps and a brand new Zombie adventure to Black Ops III. Developer Treyarch, who were responsible for the previous two Black Ops entries, are once again ready to showcase their map-making prowess, and Studio Head Mark Lamia opened up about their commitment to the game over the course of 2016.
Treyarch’s commitment to our fans with Awakening, and all season long, is to keep delivering you the goods. Great times lay ahead for players of Black Ops III, with both finely crafted new maps and reimagined multiplayer classics. And for Zombies fans…your commitment to us pays off all season long, starting with Der Eisendrache.
The four maps included with the pack run the gamut of traditional war torn environment to futuristic tri-level battlefield. Rise takes soldiers to the a snowy research campus located on the outskirts of Zurich, Splash brings the battle to an abandoned, but still vibrantly colored, waterpark and Gauntlet is a map split into three different styles, with each area (jungle, arctic and city streets) playing differently from the other. The final map, Skyjacked, is actually a futuristic take on the classic Black Ops II map, Hijacked.
Besides the four new maps, Awakening also launches the next major storyline for the massively popular Zombies mode. Set in a Austrian castle during World War II, the level picks-up where The Giant concluded. Taking place over the course of the DLC season, the journey will see Origin characters Richtofen, Takeo, Dempsey and Nikolai try to survive against countless waves of undead enemies.
Awakening can either be purchased separately for $15, or can be acquired through the purchasing of the Call of Duty: Black Ops III Season Pass, which will run you $50. As is the case with this pack, all DLC for the title will launch for the PlayStation 4, with Xbox One and Windows PC seeing the content at a later point in time.
