During the course of their Call of Duty: Ghosts presentation today, Infinity Ward confirmed that players will have the ability to transfer their online profile to next generation consoles – namely PlayStation 4 and Xbox One – when the game becomes available later this year. Specifically, this encompasses the user’s prestige, online profile and any in-game accomplishments gained in battle, which will be linked to the player’s Call of Duty Account.
As they mentioned in their conference, Infinity Ward are striving towards making the transition to next-gen as smooth as possible. In doing so, the developer will allow players to log into their online account – a profile that Call of Duty Elite subscribers will already have access to – before downloading their Call of Duty: Ghosts portfolio to their next-gen system.
The conference in L.A. served to introduce the multiplayer element of Call of Duty: Ghosts for the very first time. With a refined physics engine and a plethora of new game modes, Infinity Ward have claimed that the upcoming iteration in the blockbuster franchise is the most complete and immersive CoD experience to date.
Here’s what Activision had to say about the feature, which will allow players to:
“…carry their profile wherever they go, from console to console, current gen to next gen, second screen and more. So when players are ready to move to next gen systems Xbox One or PlayStation 4, all their Call of Duty: Ghosts stats, in-game achievements, unlocks, and more will seamlessly go with them and be ready and waiting.”
The game itself is due for release on November 5th, 2013, and while a next-gen release date hasn’t been confirmed as of yet, the fact that players will have the ability to shift their online progress to the next generation consoles via the Call of Duty account will make the wait that little bit easier.
